FAQ : What made you do it?

“ Growing up raised by a single mother I’ve always known it was her and I against the world. So in 2016 I started to take my health more seriously to make sure I was able to take care of Mom Dukes. Some days were definitely better than others but I made a promise to myself that I would always want better for my family and I . While continuing on this journey and I saw how my mind and body were changing so by 2018 I felt responsible for helping more people start their OWN journey. With that , #ShiddYouCanDoIt movement was born with the promise to inspire as many people in the world as possible. Please join US on this journey!”

What made you do it?

“ I was embracing a dark path of laziness and non accountability. I pushed myself to only look forward and started going to the gym almost every day. Once I realized that you have to love the process I knew I was doing the right thing for myself. “

“ The first pic was back in 2013 as I started a teen weightlifting program at a local community center to stay off the streets. Along with where I was in 2013, I was lost in life sleeping on floors and finding myself after escaping from gang affiliation years prior. In 2014, I somehow used my senior year project revolving around the gym almost a year after the teen weightlifting program was cut short. I found essential life lessons through the gym such as failure and persistence. The after picture is a combination of three different weights I was at in 2019. ”

What made you do it?

“ At my highest weigh in January 2017 I was 180 lbs. I was 6 months out of a manipulative relationship of 5 years. I was eating my way through Vegas (which has amazing places to eat by the way) and not exercising. It was easy to blame it on my relationship related depression, or my work schedule, or the herniated disk in my back, but in reality I just wasn't caring about my health. In January that year, I joined I Love Kickboxing, a gym of just kickboxing classes that I loved. It was something that I could do that didn't hurt my back and I truly enjoyed. Then I moved out of the country. In July 2017, I moved to Cartagena, Colombia to teach internationally. That move really changed my eating habits and level of activity. In Colombia, I started making more food at home, and using more fresh fruits and vegetables. The frozen section is small, so I wasn't buying quick meals. I also wasn't eating out as much. As for activity, I started working out at least once a week at the local gym, and just walking around Cartagena made a difference, instead of taking my car everywhere in Vegas. During my second year in Cartagena I meet my boyfriend, a semi-professional volleyball player, we started working out more often together. He has really helped to shape my weightloss journey by promoting healthy eating and helping me stay accountable. Now, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy fritos or sweets. Life is about balance and not depriving yourself, just making good choices most of the time. As of March 2020, I am currently 140 lbs.

As I've lost weight and gained flexiblity, I have also subdued most of the pain from the herniated disk in my back. I wish I could have assured my old self about this and I would have started sooner. But I'm thankful that even though it's taking years to make this change, I'm here now and I actually enjoy the work. My suggestion is find a program or app or class that you like and just stick with it. Whatever it is. “

“ It was right after my best friends wedding and her pictures came out of the bridemaids group. I was shocked out how big I looked and grotesque and was tired of complaining and not doing anything. Right after my trip to New Orleans I couldn't go back to how I used to look. I vowed never to be that girl again in the photos....here I am 1 year later 45 lbs lost and stayed off. I love myself now and the aww wolf confidence I got back is amazing. Here is seeing pics of the old girl to stay the new girl. ”

What made you do It?

“ The first picture is from my highest weight and my lowest mental state. I started my journey because I was tired of being unhappy with what I saw in the mirror. It was only leading to unnecessary insecurities so I had to make a change because mental health & physical health definitely go hand in hand. “
